First new gTLD contracts signed

Donuts, an ARI Registry Services subsdiary and CORE this morning became the first new gTLD applicants to sign registry contracts with ICANN.

The ceremonial signing took place live on stage at the opening ceremony of ICANN 47, the week-long public meeting in Durban, South Africa.

There’s been a delay (surprise!) after the first four TLD contracts were signed.

ICANN took advantage of its public meeting in Durban, South Africa last month for a public signing of the first four top level domain name contracts.

Most large domain name registrars have yet to sign the new agreement.

Two months after the first five domain registrars signed the new 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement with ICANN, only 15 more have signed on.

Google has signed its first Registry Agreement with ICANN, covering the new gTLD .みんな.

The string means “everyone” in Japanese. It had priority number 34.

New top level domain contracts are slowly (but surely) being executed.

ICANN’s latest new top level domain name contracting stats show that 56 registry agreements have been signed. 55 of those have been published to ICANN’s registry page.

Priority numbers helped companies at the beginning of the process but do not correlate closely with signed registry contracts.

Yesterday ICANN executed its contract with dotCareer, LLC for the .career top level domain names. The application had a priority draw number of 119.
