New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold Empty New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold

Post by SkyDriver Thu 04 Jul 2013, 9:14 am

The ICANN Board New gTLD Program Committee (NGPC) has put “Closed Generic” new gTLD applications on Hold by passing a resolution tonight.

Of course by placing closed generic new gTLD applications on hold, those with competing applications for the same strings , even those wanting to operate those strings as open are going to be put on hold as well.

New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold Empty Hundreds of new gTLD applicants still in GAC limbo

Post by SkyDriver Fri 20 Sep 2013, 6:11 pm

A little over five months after the Governmental Advisory Committee issued its controversial Beijing communique, demanding strict controls over hundreds of new gTLDs, ICANN has still not taken any action.

ICANN’s New gTLD Program Committee “accepted” a bunch of the GAC’s advice on new gTLDs during its meeting last week, but yet again punted the most crucial issue — how to handle the so-called “Category 1″ strings.

New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold Empty Still no closure on GAC new gTLD advice

Post by SkyDriver Sun 06 Oct 2013, 6:42 pm

ICANN board members met again to discuss the Governmental Advisory Committee’s advice on new gTLDs at the weekend and, again, made baby steps towards addressing it.

The main update in a just-published New gTLD Program Committee resolution is that dozens of previously frozen applications for “closed generic” gTLDs have been thawed.

New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold Empty APPLICANTS RESPOND TO GAC CATEGORY 2 ADVICE ON NEW GTLDS

Post by SkyDriver Fri 11 Oct 2013, 7:37 am

The strings listed in Category 2 advice correspond to 186 applications. On 19 August 2013, ICANN inquired as to whether the applicants of these 186 applications plan to operate the applied-for TLDs as exclusive access registries.

New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold Empty GAC ADVICE: CATEGORY 2 SAFEGUARDS AND APPLICANT RESPONSES

Post by SkyDriver Fri 11 Oct 2013, 7:38 am

ICANN solicited responses from applicants for the strings identified by the GAC regarding whether they planned to operate the applied-for TLDs as exclusive access registries (defined as a registry restricted to a single person or entity and/or that person's or entity's Affiliates" (as defined in Section 2.9c of the Registry Agreement)).

New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold Empty Google Backs Off On Closed Generic Strings Including .Search So Does L’Oréal

Post by SkyDriver Fri 11 Oct 2013, 7:39 am

It looks like Google has given up operating new gTLD generic stings as a close registry, even for .Search which at one point it wanted to operate as a Dotless Domain.

New gTLD Program Committee Puts Closed Generics On Hold Empty Google and Amazon.com backpedal on closed top level domain names

Post by SkyDriver Sat 12 Oct 2013, 5:02 pm

Google to make one more domain open, Amazon relents on 25.

Google and Amazon.com have changed their minds about operating some of their applied-for generic top level domain names as “closed” domain names.
